Hi Everyone, We're so happy to introduce our new associate Brooke Rai. Brooke is a native of Staten Island and a graduate of Wagner College. She and her husband Raj live in Manalapan. Brook and Raj have the most romantic love story. While on a trip to Paris over Christmas of 2006, Brooke and Raj met. They had a long distance romance over the course of a year and a half flying across the Atlantic to see each other. Eventually she studied abroad in Paris the summer before her senior year in college to be with Raj who was still living and working in France. In February of 2008 Raj moved to New Jersey and they were married that Spring. Brooke says "I am lucky to have found such an amazing person. I am also so excited to be working with Juliet Events, pursuing a career in event planning and look forward to a fabulous 2012 wedding season!"
Brooke is detail oriented, outgoing and like us, she's passionate about event planning. She's going to fit right in. Brooke can be reached at brookerai@julietevents.com.

Today we're showing our love for talented photographers Kristin Reimer and Steven Fontas of Photomuse. Their work is amazing.

Kristin graduated with a BFA in photography from Pratt Institute and found herself in the world of documentary photography and photojournalism. During a two and a half year stay in Japan, Kristin used her new environment to expand her photographic art. Her travels throughout Asia provided new challenges for capturing human details and stolen moments as well as giving her a new attentiveness to the cultural differences that makes each person, and each wedding, unique.
While Kristin has a 15 year background in wedding photography, she officially founded
her company Photomuse in 2002. In 2008, Kristin met her partner, Steven Fontas.

Steven found his parent's Kodak Instamatic sometime during 1979. Not knowing what part to look through, he wound up taking lots lots of blurry pictures of himself! As the years grew so did Steven's art. Street art and urban life became his passion. Growing up in New York City in the 1980's gave him the inspiration to launch his own art career. His talent took shape and the work grew along with the exhibitions and gallery shows.

It's just under 3 months until Kate & William's royal wedding. They've decided on a morning wedding, Friday April 29th at Westminster Abbey. The date will be declared a national holiday essentially giving everyone in the UK a day off. Kate's sister Pippa will undoubtedly be maid of honor and lady in waiting for the bride. Prince Harry will be main supporter (royal equivalent of best man). Rumor has it that Kate would like to arrive in a car rather than the traditional horse and carriage but she may have to give in to public pressure and keep with tradition. The public will want to see her on her way to the abbey and they have a much better view of her in a carriage. Although Westminster Abbey is huge and holds 3,000 guests the couple themselves only get to invite 30 of their closest friends. The bulk of the guest list will be chosen by higher-ranking dignitaries. Estimated cost for British taxpayers, $20 million dollars. Wishing William and Kate much love and happiness. I, personally, can not wait for the wedding!

Lori & Tom's Wedding, Midtown Loft & Terrace

Glamorous is the only word I have to describe Lori & Tom's wedding. Manhattan was a destination wedding for Lori and many of the guests. Tom is a native New Yorker relocated to the Midwest. Since Lori & Tom live in Kansas City, most of our planning was done through email. We were only able to meet with Lori if she happened to be in Manhattan on business. After months of planning, Lori & Tom had the sophisticated, city wedding they had been dreaming of. Ceremony and cocktails took place on the rooftop of Midtown Loft & Terrace. We had our last beach wedding of the season yesterday at McLoone's in Long Branch. Joanna and Michael got lucky with the weather. There were storms all night before the wedding but then the sky turned blue and the sun came out and we had a great day on the beach. Joanna looked beautiful and everything was perfect. We'll miss Joanna and her mom Joanne. They were so sweet to work with throughout the planning process. The wedding was a great way to end the summer.

How happy do Lara and Vatche look? They had a beautiful wedding at The Rockleigh Country Club. When the mother of the bride is a florist you know the flowers are going to be gorgeous. Lara and Vatche were surrounded by roses, thousands of them. There were three different tall rose centerpieces for the tables, roses trailing up candle holders, roses tucked in each napkin and into champagne flutes, smaller rose arrangements and cyrstals decorating the sweetheart table, roses surrounding the cake and adorning the bird cage. Nicole looked beautiful in her gown by Jim Helm and the men not only looked great in their khaki suits but they were happy not to be in tuxes on a sunny summer day. Nicole has great taste, loves hydrangea and the color purple, and wanted a very romantic look for her wedding. It was beyond romantic with the trolley, historic Elberon Memorial Church, and The Molly Pitcher's beautiful setting right on the Navasink. I love the wreaths hung on the church pews, the hydrangea, rose and ivy centerpices in silver bowls and antiqued silver votive holders. Each centerpices was slightly different using all colors of hydrangea. Sue from Gig Morris Florist in Belmar really captured the look Nicole wanted.

I could go on and on about how beautiful Erica & Charlies wedding was yesterday at Ocean Place but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Erica was gorgeous in her Ulla-Maija dress, bridesmaids were pretty in pink chiffon and the children in her bridal party were the most beautiful, best behaved children ever. The event started with a steel band playing while guests enjoyed cocktails on the ocean front patio. Then in to the ballroom where the decor was pink uplighting from JB Lighting Production, lush pink Holland hydrangea, peonies and garden rose florals from Petal Beach and all details pulled together by Juliet Events, of course. Can't wait to post the professional pictures as soon as we get them. In the mean time...

Congratulations Crystal and Rob! They are the sweetest couple. We really enjoyed helping Crystal through the planning process. We were all in tears when it came time to say goodbye. They had great weather for their wedding on the deck at The White Sands. Crystal looked gorgeous in her lace gown and black lace Christian Louboutin shoes and Rob so handsome in his tux. Talk about the wow factor. Our big Greek wedding at The Chart House yesterday had it. It was GORGEOUS! We spent a year working with the camera shy bride and groom and we enjoyed every minute of it. Feathers

So the latest floral trend is not even a flower. It's feathers. They are showing up everywhere. In bouquets, as bouquets, in centerpieces, on gifts, in everyone's hair, on cakes, absolutely everywhere. I have to say at first I was skeptical but now I'll admit I love it. I love the softness they add to flowers in particular. I was never a big fan of greens in anything floral anyway so I love that you can use feathers instead. You can finish off the edge of a bouquet in feathers that match your flowers exactly. Yes, I'm on board with this trend and loving it.

Hydrangea

Hydrangea are a wedding favorite, in centerpieces and bouquets. They are available year round and are one of only a few flowers that come in blue without having to be dyed. Although they are a little pricey a single hydrangea is large in size and is made up of hundreds of tiny florets. They are pretty alone and play well with others.

Who doesn't love pink? So many flattering shades, it looks good on everyone. No matter what skin tone you have there is a shade of pink that will make you glow. That's one of the reasons it is such a popular color for weddings. We do pink weddings every year and they are all beautiful, all different.

I love the color palate of this photo shoot. The palest blue, silver and just a hint of purple. So dreamy, so serene. Even though this is a photo shoot, not an actual wedding, there are tons of little details that can easily translate to the real world. A pale blue shirt under a tux, her blue earings, the mercury glass votives and small groupings of flower arrangements on tables all would work at a real wedding. I even love the brides bouquet made of jewelery. I'll just sit here a dream a little.

That's us at a wedding this past August. While putting out the place cards I realized some friends were guests at the wedding. My friend Andrea took that picture. It's probably the only picture in existence of Alida & me at work, LOL! I can hardly believe it's 2010. Can it really be a year since I was sitting here with Coco by my side looking forward to 2009? Coco is still sitting right next to me every week throughout the year as I tell you about our latest beautiful wedding and post our pictures. This past year we had so many different, stunning, creative weddings in unique and sometimes challenging venues. We experienced diverse cultures, made new friends, saw old friends, welcomed new assistants, mentored novice planners, got published and just plain had fun at work. So many funny stories. There was the bride who's seating plan flew, yes flew, out the car window on the NJ Turnpike the night before the wedding, the best man who split his pants on the way to the ceremony, the church lady who hid the boutonnieres and corsages in a refrigerator in the basement for safe keeping and neglected to mention it to anyone, the bridesmaids who put on the wrong dresses and the steel drum band stuck in shore traffic 2 miles from the venue for 45 minutes. All funny now, not so funny at the time. Of course, everything turned out fine. We redid the seating, sewed the pants, found the flowers, pinned and laced the dresses and the steel drums made it to the ceremony. Just another day at work for Juliet Events. We are already looking forward to starting our season in the spring. Until then it's design meetings and floral appointments, color palate selection and idea generation, venue searches and vendor selection and all the finishing touches to bring the wedding together. Ok, let me go on and on about how beautiful this wedding was. It was relaxed and casual but elegant in a beautiful setting on the Hudson River. There were all the ingredients for a fabulous day. Family and friends, fun and games, food and cupcakes and Bloody Mary's from a family recipe. And, it was so Emily and Scott. Everything was natural and organic, no bling in sight. Katherine & Harry, The Palace, Somerset

Everything about Katherine and Harry's wedding was soooo pretty!
I mean, just look at them. They looked gorgeous. They had a perfect Saturday in September, the Perennial Garden at Colonial Park in Somerset in full bloom for their outdoor ceremony and The Palace for their reception. Although they are New Yorkers, they found this picture perfect setting and fell in love with it. Harry is having a great year. Married to Katherine, honeymoon in Bali and another Yankee World Series win. What more could he want.

I have to say that Linda and Johnny's wedding was just beautiful. Linda has great taste. She used peacock feathers as her inspiration. We added just a hint of feathers accented with rhinestones to her bouquets, centerpieces and our custom table numbers. Teal napkins on the table and peacock blue dresses for the girls and the look was elegant with a pop of color. Linda looked gorgeous in a beaded strapless gown and great hair and makeup.

Joyce and George were married at the beautiful Hawthorne Gospel Church where Pastor John Minnema immediately made us feel welcome and at home. It was so nice meeting and working with Joyce and George and their families. We thank them for teaching us their traditions, which involved all the women in the family gathering around the couple, singing and dancing. A blusher veil is a must for a Kenyan bride and has to be in place before she leaves her home. The wedding was lovely with a reception at The Graycliff.

Kendyl and Andrew traveled from Australia to be married at the Skylands Manor in Kendyl's home town of Ringwood. The ceremony took place in the chapel on the beautiful grounds of the Manor. There were so many pretty details to this wedding. The bride was ethereal in her goddess style dress. The bridesmaids wore pale yellow dresses with a ruffled skirt and shoes with a flower print. Phoebe, our Aussie flower girl played barefoot most of the afternoon. The groom, a wine maker, provided the favors, bottles of sparkling wine. The "under 21" guests were treated to bottles of M&M's. If you think you recognize the bridesmaid in the picture above, that's Jenna, whose beautiful photos are on the home page of our website and in the fall issue of New Jersey Bride Magazine.

We just loved working with Aubrey and Bill who are both in the Navy. Whenever Aubrey took more than a few days to answer an email we knew she was "at sea". They seriously had so much fun at their wedding. I have never seen guests dance as much as their friends did. Good thing they booked the disco room at Jumping Brook Country Club for their after party. Those beautiful flowers are from Gig Morris Flower Shop.

How happy do they look? We had a great time at Hiral and Johns wedding. They are such a sweet couple and so great to work with. They're right back to their seperate residency programs but looking forward to that honeymoon as soon as they can fit it in.

Unique Escort Card Ideas

We were hoping this photo would have gotten into New Jersey Bride magazine along with the other photos from Jenna and Tylers wedding. One of the advantages of having a wedding planner is having access to their creativity. My own personal challenge is coming up with unique ways for our brides to display their escort cards. This was especially challenging for Jenna's wedding since we had only 48 hours to plan thanks to Hurricaine Hanna. The one thing Jenna wanted after all her plans were cancelled was not to have her escort cards on a table like everyone else has. We did not want to dissapoint her. We had become so close to her after working together for nine months. We were devastated that her garden wedding had to be cancelled due to weather after all the time and effort we had all put into it. Somehow, while wandering around the craft store, with very little money and even less time, we came up with bird houses and ribbons. Exactly one year after Zubin proposed to Helen, they were married on the beach at MerriMakers in Sea Bright. And we finally had beautiful weather! They are such a nice couple. We wish them lots of love and happiness in their new home in California.

We have a beach wedding this Saturday July 4th at the Merrimakers in Sea Bright. Its rained for 30 days straight, so please let us have some sunshine for our beautiful bride. Jessie Blum from Eclectic Unions will be officiating at the ceremony. We are so excited to finally meet her. Our bride and groom Helen and Zubin have the Tropical Beat Steel Band playing for the ceremony and cocktail hour. So we will have a taste of the Caribbean, right in Sea Bright. Petal Beach is doing the flowers and we know they will be gorgeous. Add to that the aqua and white themed Candy Bar we are doing for Helen and Zubin and this wedding promises to be fabulous. It going to be a great 4th of July!

Nicole M. / The "A" Band/ The Merion

In May we worked with photographer Nicole Marie. Angela and I were amazed at the the beautiful photos she took of Dana and Keith's wedding. Nicole was a pleasure to work with She is professional, hard working and one of the nicest people we have ever met. Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

Interesting TV show with some surprisingly difficult questions. Of course we are all smarter than those fifth graders but we've forgotten the answers to some of those questions because we haven't used that information since, well, fifth grade. Planning your wedding can be a similar experience. The smartest couples realize planning a wedding requires specialized information that they don't use on a daily basis. Your wedding planner does. We do this three or four times a month, not once in a lifetime. We know all the questions to ask, the best vendors to use, where you should spend your money to achieve the results you want and where you can save. We think of all the things you never would have thought of, every detail, every "what if". Hire your wedding planner early in the planning process. We'll keep you from making costly mistakes. We'll help you have the wedding you want and save you money while doing it.

So I'm working at my computer with Coco, my lovable chocolate lab right by my side, looking forward to the new year. January is always an exciting time at Juliet Events. We have so many calls from couples who became engaged over the holidays and are excited to start planning their weddings. And we are excited to be planning with them. Before we get 2009 into full swing I'd like to thank all our 2008 couples for such a successful year. We loved every minute of it. We got to know and work with some really great families. Thank you for including us in your celebrations and sharing your traditions with us. We'll miss you all and hope you keep in touch. Alida and I would also like to thank our staff. To Phyllis, our right hand, you're always there for us no matter what the task and we are grateful. To our adorable assistants Christie and Glisidia, congratulations on your college graduations! We wish you both much success. You know you can count on us to help you in any way we can. To David and James, we miss you. What will we do while you are back in school in Florida? We couldn't have done it without you, especially the Manhattan weddings where you were indispensable. To the great vendors we choose to work with, thank you for always coming through for us. To our 2009 brides, we can't wait to see you walk down the aisle. Until you do we are busy brainstorming new ideas and options to give you exactly what you want, not just what everyone else had. 2009 Getting Ready Packages

We will work with you to find the right vendors, negotiate the contracts and pull together all the design elements. You can depend on us for etiquette advice, wording for your invitations, programs and menu cards and the all important trip to the florist. Yes, you can afford a wedding planner.

Your Wedding Style

How can your wedding have a cohesive style and that pulled together look? Most elements of style fall into four basic categories. Choose the category that you are drawn to and go with it.

Abstract Idea - An abstract idea or inspiration uses elements that work together aesthetically and conceptually. For example, this August, Honey and Brian wanted an Asian themed wedding. Their colors were raspberry and white. The Asian theme was the abstract idea or concept. The color scheme was the aesthetic value. To pull this look together we used deep pink tablecloths with white chairs and napkins. The centerpieces were stunning arrangements of pink orchids in bamboo lined vases bringing together both the color scheme and the Asian theme. The cake was decorated with the same orchids. Origami cranes were scattered on the tables in place of the usual rose petals. Their guest book was an Asian scroll. Even the menu used Asian flavors. The overall effect was a very sophisticated, cohesive look.
Shape - Repeating a shape throughout your wedding is an easy way to unite all the details. A simple shape such as circles, hearts or stars can be used on all the elements from invitations and programs, to your jewelery, the cake decoration and thank you cards.
Color Scheme - A palette of two or three complementary colors is the easiest way to create a cohesive look. Choose colors that you love. Use them for your invitations, flowers, bridesmaids dresses, table linens and cake decoration. Liza and Chance wanted their wedding to have a hint of Hawaii without any of the cliche` elements. We used a bold color scheme of teal and orange to get that South Pacific feeling. The bridesmaids wore teal dresses and carried bouquets of orange orchids. The tables were dressed with teal tablecloths and centerpieces of submerged stems of orange orchids. The same orchids were scattered on the tables and placed on each napkin. Teal and orange were used on the cake as well.
Motif - You can use a particular image as a sophisticated design motif throughout your wedding. Sara and Jay used a mirror motif for their contemporary wedding in a Manhattan nightclub. The centerpieces were vases of mirrored branches lit from within and placed on mirrors. The sweetheart table was draped with strands of small round mirrors. The effect was dramatic and glamorous. The guests and even the photographer and videographer commented on the originality of the ideas. No one had ever seen anything like it before.

While you may find it daunting to pull the design of your wedding together, this is something we do for all our clients. In fact, having a wedding that is cohesive, visually pleasing and sophisticated is one of the reasons you hire a wedding planner.

Fall Weddings 2008

Of course, in New Jersey, anything after Labor Day is fall. Summer's over, not officially of course, but in our minds. So this fall we've been to some great venues and worked with some great vendors. That's one of the advantages of having a wedding planner. We've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. We will recommend the good, like photographer Jacqueline Pfeffer and videographer Edward Zilberman, Entemanns Florist in Secaucus and Gig Morris Florist in Belmar. The beautiful Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club on the ocean in Spring Lake, The Wilshire Grand in West Orange or trendy Studio 450 in Manhattan. The bad will go unnamed, like the band that drank all night and didn't know any of the songs on the bride's play list, or the florist who delivered half a flower order. By the way, we did not recommend that band, in fact, we tried to persuade the couple not to hire them. Some couples do not take the advice of their wedding planner. Some couples already have their vendors when they hire us. Sometimes you have to work with what you have. We've seen it all.
